Sofia Recchia (DC6) and Marilena Mastrodima (DC12) contribute to Metabolic Engineering 16 in Copenhagen

We are pleased to share that Sofia Recchia (DC6) and Marilena Mastrodima (DC12), both PhD researchers at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), participated in the Metabolic Engineering 16 Conference, held in Copenhagen from June 15 to 19, 2025.

Sofia and Marilena are investigating the potential of unconventional yeast species as microbial platforms for sustainable lipid production. Their research explores the use of non-conventional yeasts to convert biowaste streams into valuable lipids, contributing to the development of circular, low-impact bioprocesses that support a more sustainable bioeconomy.

Poster Presentations

  • Sofia Recchia presented the poster titled “Unlocking the Potential of Debaryomyces hansenii for Lipids Production from Salt-Rich Feedstock.”
  • Marilena Mastrodima showcased her poster “High-Throughput Strategy for Developing a Novel Yeast-Based Microbial Oil Production Platform.”

Advancing Sustainable Biotechnology

By presenting their work at Metabolic Engineering 16, Sofia and Marilena contributed to the broader conversation on bio-based innovation and sustainability!
