- What is your role in the YAF project? What are you currently working on within the scope of YAF?
As doctoral candidate #6 in the YAF project, I’m working with Debaryomyces hansenii, a salt-loving yeast, to turn it into a microbial cell factory that produces sustainable aviation fuel precursors from seagrass biomass.
- Why do you think the YAF research is important for your career development and how it will impact the society?
YAF gathers scientists from different fields, creating many opportunities to learn from one another. This PhD lets me grow as a researcher while contributing to a more sustainable aviation sector.
- What or who inspired you to go into academia/research?
I’ve always been driven by curiosity and a passion for science. This PhD lets me combine my scientific interests with environmental awareness and contribute to a more sustainable society.
- For you, what is most challenging and/or exciting about your work in YAF?
I’m excited by the chance to explore uncharted territory in sustainable aviation fuels. The main challenge is making the process viable and scalable, solving problems where little guidance exists.
- Write a catchy slogan for your IRP.
Empowering D. hansenii to fuel a sustainable sky
- Where can we find you after work? Doing what?
Beyond the lab, I enjoy time with my loved ones, being in nature and unwinding with a good read.
