- What is your role in the YAF project? What are you currently working on within the scope of YAF?
I am Abdullah’s (DC5) co-supervisor. In my work I genetically modify non-conventional yeast to produce chemicals currently obtained in a non-sustainable way by deep diving into their metabolism and getting insights from it. Recently, we have started to automatise these processes to increase throughput in strain engineering.
- Why do you think the YAF research is important for your career development and how it will impact the society?
YAF project brings together experts in different fields of science and provides an opportunity to learn from each other. I hope YAF research will develop my maturity as a scientist to tackle such an urgent global need. This project can lay the foundations for aviation to be in peace with the environment.
- What or who inspired you to go into academia/research?
A friend of mine who taught me to appreciate the beauty of how science is built: by the effort of curious minds to push the boundaries of human knowledge further and further.
- For you, what is most challenging and/or exciting about your work in YAF?
I’m super excited about how the DC’s form such a harmonious group whilst being spread across so many countries. I’m sure they will get the most out of all the opportunities for collaboration that YAF provides.
- Write an inspiring quote for the DC you are going to supervise in YAF.
“Don’t forget to marvel at the perfectly ordained complexity you’ll discover in whatever you research“.
- Where can we find you after work? Doing what?
Spending quality time with my loved ones. My family and I like to have people over to talk, eat something tasty, maybe play some boardgame.
